General IELTS

This version of the IELTS is for candidates who want to work, train, study at secondary level or simply use for migration purpose or visa entry to an English country. The General Training version of IELTS measures English language proficiency in a practical, everyday context. The tasks and texts reflect both workplace and social situations.

IELTS Academic

Academic module is for test takers who want to register their profession; or study at tertiary level or university entrance in an English- speaking country. The Academic version of IELTS measures English language proficiency needed for an academic, higher learning environment. The tasks and texts are accessible to all test takers, irrespective of their of their subjects fous.

IELTS Syllabus

Reading – is divided into 3 parts, 40 questions for 60 minutes.

This subtest is consisting of multiple choice, sentence completion, summary writing, matching information or identifying writer’s views.
Each passage consists of 13-14 variety of questions types like reading for gist, reading for main ideas, reading for detail, skimming, understanding the logical argument, recognizing writers’ opinions.

Listening - is a divided into 4 parts, 40 questions for 30 minutes (10 minutes to transfer answers to the answer sheet

First and second part is a conversation between 2 individuals about an everyday social context. A conversation about travel arrangements or about local facilities.
Third and fourth part is conversation recorded between two speakers about educational and training or 2 university students discussing about a guide tour. In last part of the speaking is one person discussing about academic subject.

Writing – is of 2 parts for 60 minutes (20-minute task 1, 40-minute task 2)

First part in Academic IELTS is describing data, table, line graph or pie chart.
First part in General IELTS is writing correspondence about general activities.
Second part both Academic and General IELTS is writing essay of different life activities.

Speaking – has 3 parts for 11-14 minutes

First part is a question about a candidate’s family background, social lifestyle, workplace or study activities.
Second part is all about random daily life activity of candidates in 2-minute timed questions.
Third part is a follow-up questions about what has been asked in the second part

What is the purpose of the IELTS Test?

IELTS is available in two modules: Academic and General Training.

  • The IELTS Academic module is intended to assess the language ability of candidates who need to study or work where English is the language of communication.
  • The IELTS General Training module is intended for candidates who are going to English-speaking countries for immigration purposes to Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
